Nusrat Sharmin
PhD Student, Department of Economics, University of Oklahoma
I am a third-year PhD student in Economics at the University of Oklahoma. My research lies at the intersection of development economics, environmental economics, and health economics, with a focus on how environmental shocks shape human welfare and economic outcomes. I rely on quasi-experimental methods applied to large-scale administrative and survey data.
One strand of my work examines how cyclone exposure affects infant mortality and child health investment in Bangladesh. I am also a Graduate Research Assistant on an NSF-funded project — The Good Fire — under the supervision of Co-PI Dr. Jayash Paudel. This project examines the economic consequences and policy trade-offs of prescribed fire and managed wildland use across the United States.
Outside of research, I enjoy travelling and watching movies, and find myself equally fascinated by the world on screen and the world in the data.
